Why a Standby Service?
OSHA 1910.146 states that when employees enter a permit required confined space that EMPLOYERS must develop and implement procedures for rescuing entrants from the space. It also states that the EMPLOYER must also provide necessary emergency services to that employee. OSHA also requires EMPLOYERS to ensure the rescue of a employee that has enter the space in a timely manner that can be the difference between life and death of the employee! This can be accomplished through the use of trained and competent in house rescue personnel, or through the use of an outside rescue organization- either private contractors or municipal fire department.
